West Ranch "Male Athlete of the Year" a proud member of Varisty Wildcats Lacrosse

June 02, 2020

The 2019-2020 Lacrosse Season might have been abbreviated but one West Ranch athlete had already put in years of hard work on the field and the gridiron.  He was hard not to notice!  And that's why two-sport star athlete Zach Van Bennekum took home the honor of "West Ranch Male Athlete of the year."  He will take his talents to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA starting in the Fall.  Zach now has his sites set on a degree in "Information Systems" where he'll learn how to put technology to work.  No doubt building on the hard work ethic he developed while both a 4-year lacrosse and football star at West Ranch.  Van Bennekum called his time on the lacrosse field "unforgettable" because of the "strong sense of community."  What's more, he encourages his football brethren to follow in his footsteps.  "Lacrosse skills overlap," said Van Bennekum.  It was the perfect way for this super committed athletic to keep working on his physical and mental skills all year long.
